We all go online for various reasons. Some of us want to keep updated on the latest news on social media. Others wish to spend some time shopping. And more of us go online for several hours each day for work purposes. The latter is thanks to the increase of “remote” workers.
You might think that our lives are already dominated by the World Wide Web. But, in a few years’ time, we’ll rely more on the Internet to help us manage our lives. And that’s especially so with the evolution of IoT (Internet of Things) devices.
But, as it stands today, the Internet has evolved so that we can live and work from home. Here are six examples of why we don’t even need to set foot out the front door thanks to the ‘net:
1. Working from home is now possible thanks to the cloud
There was once a time where you had no choice but to work from your employer’s premises. Today, most tasks can get carried out from home using nothing more than a PC and an Internet connection.
The “cloud” allows people to use services hosted online. Perhaps the main advantage is that those services can get accessed from anywhere. And you can access them using any web browser.
2. Thousands of movies and songs on demand
Movie and music streaming services have exploded in popularity during the past five years. You no longer need to have a collection of CDs and DVDs taking up valuable shelf space in your home.
All you need to do is go online, search for your favorite films or tracks, and download them. App technology has also meant that those items can get streamed to mobile devices too.
3. Groceries from the computer to your kitchen
Those first two points sound like compelling reasons to stay at home. But, at some point, you will need to eat! Thankfully, a plethora of supermarket chains now offer online ordering. Even e-commerce retailers like Amazon have joined the party with their “Pantry” service.
4. Hot food straight to your door
Sometimes people won’t feel like preparing and cooking a meal from scratch. Instead, they’d prefer to treat themselves to some takeaway meals.
Gone are the days where you’d have to go and get them in person. Yes, that’s right’; the Internet now allows you to get fast food delivered to your door!
5. Make some money and have fun with online gambling
There used to be a time where going down to the local casino was a big deal. You and your friends would dress to impress and make an evening of it. Of course, the bonus is that you could come back home richer than when you left!
Nowadays, there are many gambling and betting websites available to use. Sites like Maria Casino and Caesars let you play games like slots and poker via your browser.
6. You can buy books in a paper or digital format
If you’re an avid enthusiast of literature, you’ll find a wealth of books available to buy online. They can get shipped to you in a paper format or downloaded to your tablet.
The days of traipsing around bookstores to get the hottest new titles are over. Plus, you don’t ever need to set foot inside a library.
One now simply browses for the books they want online!
