According to British survey, music eases pain

A recent survey out of Britain, conducted by Lloyds pharmacy shows that 40% of people say listening to music helps them deal with pain. Songs by Elton John, Robbie Williams, and Simon and Garfunkel topped the list. According to the results of the survey, music has a much greater effect on younger people, aged 16-24, saying it helps them manage pain.

The research was based on a survey of about 1500 people in Britain.

Popular genres include:

  • Pop (helped 21% deal with pain)
  • Classical (17%)
  • Rock (16%)

Lloyds Pharmacy is now trying the use of music in it’s pain relief service, which is provides.

  • Bridge Over Troubled Water (Simon and Garfunkel)
  •  Angels (Robbie Williams)
  • Albatross (Fleetwood Mac)
  • Candle In The Wind (Elton John)
  • Easy (The Commodores)
