On Saturday at 9a.m reports from all over of a malfunction with the EBT Card systems, Which caused concern in supermarkets across the country. From California to Massachusetts beneficiaries panicked while the company responsible Vendor Xerox Corp tried to figure out what happened after a routine backup system test failed.
Now I know what you are going to say, its the Government trying to slowly squeeze off costs. While that is possible, it also needs to be known that Technology is complicated. I mean just yesterday we had our site offline all because of one little space in code. So with something like EBT systems there is bound to be somethings out of order. There was 17 states that were affected, while Xerox worked to get everything up and running, Spokeswoman for Xerox Jennifer Wasmer made a statement.
“Beneficiaries requiring access to their benefits can work with their local retailers who can activate an emergency voucher system where there available. We appreciate our clients’ patience while we work through this outage as quickly as possible.”
States affected includes Alabama, Ohio, Michigan, California, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia
A U.S. Department of Agriculture spokeswoman named Courtney Rowe said the outage is not related to the government shutdown.
Reports are saying that the issue has been resolved, however some states are still having problems. Many customers had to leave there food in the carts and head home empty handed. Some of the worst places for this to happen is Clarksdale, Miss In which one of the poorest parts in one of the poorest states in the country Eliza Shook at Corner Grocery had to tell dozens of customers to put back groceries when the cards failed Saturday because they couldn’t afford to pay for the food.
What do you think of this, was it caused by the Government? or just Coincidence? Where you affected if so has it been resolved?
