If you’re someone who runs a business, or even if you’re not, the chances are that your laptop is your life. Or, if it’s not your life, it contains most of the important parts of your life. It’s home to all of your photos, your important files, various pieces of data, and goodness knows what else. So, when your computer freezes before turning off and refusing to come back on, it can be scary.

Could that be it, could your laptop and its contents be gone forever? Have you lost all of your important photos, documents, and pieces of data? Once you’ve got over the worry of losing your information, the next thing you most probably focus on is why it’s crashed. Has a corrupted file damaged your laptop? Is this breakdown the result of malware? Or, has your computer caught a nasty virus?

Whatever it is that’s happened if it’s led to your laptop crashing, here’s what you need to do:

Try rebooting it

So your computer has crashed. The first step is to try rebooting it yourself. If this works, then you’re back in business. However, before you use it, it’s a good idea to put it into safe mode and run a malware scan, followed by running any updates that are waiting to be installed.

Sometimes, believe it or not, simply by not updating your computer with updates, this can cause it to crash without any warning. So, it’s important to ensure that your computer is updated on a regular basis.

Remain calm

If your laptop won’t turn back on when you try and reboot it, it’s important to remain calm. Getting panicked and upset about it won’t make things any better. Nor will, despite what you may have heard, banging your laptop against something.

You might be upset about the fact that you can’t use your laptop or access your files but it’s important to stay calm about the situation. Remember, in most instances of laptops breaking down or crashing; they can be fixed. So, until you know what’s going on, stay calm.

Find a specialist

If you can’t deal with the problem yourself, the next step is to get in touch with a specialist. What you want to do is find a data recovery specialist in your area who will be able to help recover any data that’s on your laptop, and hopefully, tell you what the problem is that’s caused it to break down.

The chances are that the issue will be able to be fixed. However, if it’s not fixable, the next step is to see whether any data can be recovered, or whether it’s a total loss. If your laptop is insured or still under warranty, you may not have to pay the full price for a replacement. However, if you’ve got no protection in place, then you may have to.

There you have it, a simple guide to dealing with a crashed laptop. Sometimes, laptops seem to break for no reason, and when this happens, it can be highly frustrating. However, it’s important to stay as calm as possible, as getting stressed will only make things worse.
